Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
Another neurodevelopmental condition is Autism Spectrum Disorder which is typically characterized by relentless deficits in reciprocal social interaction and social communication, repetitive patterns in their habits, interests or activities. Symptoms of ASD manifest in early childhood and can impact day-to-day functioning. There may be unusual sensitivity to sensory stimuli as well as noticeable delays in social or language development milestones such as not responding when their name is called, not looking at what caregivers might be bringing to their attention, not returning non-verbal cues like smiles, not using single words by 18 months of age. These symptoms will vary from child to child. Autism exists on a spectrum.
